As you may have gathered, I’m a massive fan of independent labels, I love the dynamics, the dreams and watching stories unfold in a way that will be more personal than anything, almost like a piece of jewellery…
“Fine British jewellery to flatter every age and resist the test of time created by Mother-Daughter duo Susan & Florence”
As we step out of lockdown, there’s been a surge in not only luxury goods, but bespoke pieces that mean something. Creating relationships and an experiential purchase rather than a unemotive experience. Flose was founded in 2021 from the desire to create unique jewellery that captures soul and spirit and it most certainly does that. Seeking out the rarest exotic gem varieties that speak to the individual, the duo aim to enchant with creations that connect you to people, places and stories. With jewellery that aims to be treasured throughout generations with every piece leaving its own mark on history.
About the founders, Susan and Florence.
Susan grew up exploring the beautiful tropical landscapes of the Far East and West Africa. With a Geologist as a father, she spent her childhood surrounded by mineral specimens and going on family expeditions searching for fossils. Her childhood has sculpted her passion for finding the rarest of gemstones and creating the most exquisite albeit classic pieces.
Like Susan, Florence has also spent a lot of her life in Africa having spent many years in Cape Town. An independent spirit full of creativity, Florence has now graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelors degree in Religious Studies & Media and is now incorporating her fascination of anthropology, culture and antiquity in her designs
“As a brand we are committed to supporting our industry from the grass roots up. It is most important to us to protect and support those individuals and communities who find and mine our beautiful materials, for without them we would have nothing.”
The duo ask the questions and buy only from our trusted contacts where they are confident of responsible sourcing. They support Gem Legacy (a non-profit charitable organisation) with 10% of profits from sales from their Tafari Collection and with additional one off donations. Gem Legacy supports education, vocational training, and local economies in East African coloured gemstone mining communities.
Like Susan and Florence, my goal has always been to create honest and creative relationships with the people I am fortunate to work with, Thank you so much ladies for sharing your beautiful collection with my readers and I.
